INDIGENOUS RIGHTS AND
THE DOCTRINE OF DISCOVERY ZOOM SERIES

Sign up for a “deep dive” understanding the Doctrine of Discovery, one of the most influential, yet hidden narratives in American society. This dysfunctional theological doctrine served to deny equality for people of color and justified slavery and the elimination of Native people and their land. We will meet from 7:00 – 8:30 pm on Zoom on three Wednesdays (November 3, 10, 17).

Nov 3:  Gain an introduction to the Doctrine of Discovery, its history, and its ramifications for today

Nov 10:  Vance Blackfox, Desk Director for the American Indian and Alaska Native Tribal Nations for the ELCA, will give us a Native American perspective of the Doctrine.

Nov 17: ECLC member Dick Magnus who recently helped develop the ELCA Declaration response to the Doctrine of Discovery will lead a discussion of how the ELCA and our congregation might respond.

RSVP to Mark Swiggum or Deacon Lauren at lmorsewendt@eclc.org
