ECLC Mission Committee

Goals & Objectives

ECLC's goal #3:

Boldly engage the ECLC community in missions of justice and service to shape the life of the congregation and the world around it

In response to this goal, the Mission Committee objectives and strategies are:

Support ECLC members in their daily life mission work – at school, at work, at home, at play

a. Explore the possibility of small group discussions on topics such as living out faith at middle school,

at corporate headquarters, at clinic, on the soccer field
b. Sponsor three adult forums focused on faith and daily living.

Provide ongoing opportunities for members to experience new mission and service opportunities

a. Pursue a potential relationship with Selian Lutheran Hospital in Tanzania
b. Nurture and expand relationships with existing partnerships

Provide information and resources for ongoing advocacy work on behalf of the vulnerable in our community

a. Utilize and expand congregation communications about existing needs
b. Sponsor monthly adult forums
c. Host the mission advocacy table
d. Host the annual mission fair in October

Work to maintain and support ongoing metropolitan-wide justice and service opportunities

a. Recruit volunteers as needed by current and/or new partnerships

b. Provide opportunities for members to “tell their stories” of their involvements in justice/service projects

c. Continue to provide leadership for the Edina Affordable Housing Initiative

Continue to identify and implement ways to influence the ELCA and its focus on mission and justice

a. Provide ongoing financial and other support to RIC
b. Provide support and volunteers for the “Gather Us In” conference in July

Develop a “seamless garment” from the many patchwork pieces of service and justice already in place in the ECLC quilt

a. Collect snapshots of many members’ “patchwork pieces”
b. Create ways to bring those pieces together
c. Visibly present the seamless garment of service and justice at the Mission Fair
