ECLC declares
itself a "peace church"
at Annual
Meeting Jan. 27, 2008
An action prompted by ECLC's Peace and Justice Group and recommended
by the Council of Ministers was approved by the congregation on
Jan. 27, 2008 at its annual meeting. ECLC also will be added to
the registry of Every Church A Peace
Church.
The Peace and
Justice Committee members involved include: LynMarie Berntson, Lisa
Finsness, Jane Hayek, Sandy Heidemann,Tom Holm, David Merchant,
Sue Lyke, Nancy and John Peterson and Jim Siefkes.

The
United Nations Millennium Development Goals help fill in the vision
of shalom wherein peace is understood as when all people share in
the fullness of life. The goals adopted by 189 nations on September
2000 include:
1) Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2) Achieve universal primary education
3) Promote gender equality and empower women
4) Reduce infant mortality
5) Improve maternal health
6) Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
7) Ensure environmental sustainability
8) Develop a global partnership for development.
